Ukraine police hunt for Yanukovych, charged with mass murder

The hunt for disgraced former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych continues. Police issued an arrest warrant today for charges of mass murder. Ukraine’s interim interior minister, Arsen Avakov, posted the latest development on his facebook profile.

Since fleeing his luxury home near Kyiv on Friday night by helicopter the whereabouts of the ousted leader has been unknown.

It has been reported that Yanukovych left a private residence in the town of Balaclava in the ethnically Russian dominated southern region of Crimea late on Sunday. He then reportedly attempted to leave the country from Belbek Airport in Sevastopol with an aide.

In the city of Kerch, also in Crimea, pro-Russian protesters clashed with supporters of the newly forming political system on Sunday. The area has many native Russian speakers and strong cultural ties to Moscow.

In Sevastopol, a estimated 50,000 people attended a rally where they called for secession and chanted “Russia” throughout the demonstration.
