Mirziyoyev campaign office says he is winning presidential elections in Uzbekistan

 TASHKENT, December 4. /TASS/. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the candidate from Uzbekistan’s Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen/the Liberal Democratic Party (UzLiDeP), is winning Sunday’s early presidential elections in Uzbekistan, a spokesman for his campaign office told TASS on Sunday.

"We are receiving data and can say that preliminary results show that we are winning," Dilshod Shoumarov, a deputy head of the office, said.

Early presidential elections were held in Uzbekistan on Sunday. Votes are counted manually. The Central Election Commission said it would announced preliminary results at 16:00 local time (14:00 Moscow time) on Monday.

The elections were appointed after the death of Uzbekistan’s President Islam Karimov on September 2.

Four candidates from all Uzbekistan’s officially registered parties are vying for presidency. The candidates are acting President and Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev nominated by the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen/the Liberal Democratic Party; Khatamzhon Ketmonov of the People’s Democratic Party; Sarvar Otamuratov of the Milliy Tiklanich (National Revival) Democratic Party; and Nariman Umarov of the Adolat (Justice) Social Democratic Party.

Under the Uzbek current laws, elections are recognized valid when the voter turnout exceeds 33% The winning candidate is to score more than 50% of voters.
