CIS special services urged to step up cooperation

 MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) - In the context of increasing instability in the world, it is especially important that the special services of the CIS countries increase the efficiency of joint activities, Belarus KGB chief Valery Vakulchik said when speaking during a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services in Minsk on 19 May, BelTA has learned.

“Regular exchange of experience, discussion of security problems and finding ways to solve them enhance the efficiency of cooperation of the CIS special services. This is particularly important in the context of growing global instability,” Valery Vakulchik said.

Minsk played host to the 40th meeting of the Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services of the CIS Member States. The meeting participants discussed the changing geopolitical situation in the world and the security in the Central Asian region, progress made in the implementation of the CIS cooperation program against terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism for 2014-2016.

The meeting took stock of the work of the CIS Anti-Terrorist Center in 2015 and the meeting of the Coordinating Council and Technical Committee of the Joint Data Bank of the security agencies and special services of the CIS member states to combat organized crime.
