Final stage of CIS anti-cyberterrorism exercise to take place in Belarus

 MOSCOW, 10 February (BelTA) – Security services of the CIS member states will stage a large-scale exercise in 2016 to combat cyberterrorism. The final stage of the exercise will take place in Belarus, BelTA learned from Andrei Novikov, Head of the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center (ATC), during the ninth conference of the heads of the national antiterrorism centers of the CIS member states in Moscow on 10 February.

The official said that the exercise Cyber-Antiterror 2016 will take place in May-June. The final stage of the exercise will be held in Belarus. The exercise will gather security services and secret services of five countries — Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia. “We plan to follow a unified concept.Through concerted actions we will practice the detection and suppression of acts of cyberterrorism, information crimes of terrorism nature, which are committed using information and communication technologies,” said Andrei Novikov.

The exercise will be based on a realistic scenario that reflects modern knowledge about terrorism. It will include an analysis of the objects that terrorist organizations may target as well as changes in the ways and methods used to commit such crimes.

Combat units will be involved in repulsing a cyberattack against a critically vital installation. Andrei Novikov reminded that in the 15 years since the ATC was founded as many as 12 large-scale exercises have been held to allow the CIS security services to polish cooperation in battling various kinds of terrorist threats.
