OSCE organizes international anti-terrorism study tour for Kyrgyz special service officers

Bishkek, April 23 / Kabar/. A week-long study visit for twelve representatives of Kyrgyzstan’s security agencies to learn about combating extremism and terrorism concluded on 19 April 2014 in Turkey.

Participants in the tour, organized by the OSCE Centre in Bishkek and the Turkish National Police, included high-level officials from the Ministry of Interior, the Anti-Terrorism Centre of the State Committee of National Security, the Defence Council, the National Guard, the Internal Troops, the State Border Service and the State Service on Execution of Punishment.

They learned about Turkey’s antiterrorism capacity and infrastructure, and shared experiences and best practices with their Turkish colleagues.
“With its long experience, Turkey has developed effective counterterrorism strategies,” said TurgutAslan, Director of the Counter Terrorism Department of the Turkish National Police. “In order to share this experience with friendly nations, the Turkish National Police offered a training programme for Kyrgyz officers. In 2014 and 2015 more courses like this one will be offered with the OSCE’s support.”

The visit to Turkey builds upon ongoing collaboration between the OSCE Centre in Bishkek and Turkish National Police on assisting Kyrgyzstan in its antiterrorism efforts.

In March 2014 a trilateral letter of intent to organize anti-terrorism training courses for Kyrgyz police was signed in Bishkekby the Anti-terrorism Centre under the State Committee of National Security of Kyrgyzstan, the OSCE Centre in Bishkek and the Turkish National Police. The tour o Turkey is the first study visit in the framework of this initiative.
