ICRC-supported seminars for officers from the Ministry of Interior and its Police Academy are taking place in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, November 26 / Kabar /. Four two-day ICRC-supported seminars on international rules and standards of policing are taking place in Bishkek, Osh and Jalal-Abad from 21 November to 2 December 2016. The International Committee for Red Crescent reports.

Some 75 investigators from the Ministry of Interior and lecturers from the Academy under the Ministry of Interior will participate in these seminars with the aim of raising awareness and gaining new knowledge and skills on policing ethics, stress management, rules on the use of force and firearms in law enforcement operations, search and seizure, arrest and judicial guarantees of arrested persons.

Seminars are being conducted by Halit Bulanikli, the ICRC Regional Police and Security Forces Delegate.

“Consideration of such topics as policing ethics is highly important for the law enforcement officers, along with strictly professional topics, such as use of force, search and seizure, international policing standards, etc. The seminar served as a platform for common discussion and experience sharing and provided an opportunity for us to learn more about the ICRC and its humanitarian activities worldwide and in Kyrgyzstan”, Mayor of police Moldokulova Aizada said of the seminar.

“I found the session on stress management very useful. As the work of law enforcement personnel can be highly stressful, we need to practice stress prevention measures and know how to cope with stress in order to fulfill our duties in a professional and healthy manner. We will put all obtained information and tips into practice during our daily activities”, commented Mayor of police Myrsakanova Aida.

In addition to activities directed to the improvement of professional capacity of law enforcement officers, the ICRC in Kyrgyzstan supports the Ministry of Interior in its efforts to improve conditions of detention and treatment of detainees, and fruitfully cooperates with the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Health on the provision of medical services to persons held in ten temporary places of detention (IVS) under the Ministry of Interior in Bishkek, Balykchi, Jalal-Abad, Kara-Suu, Kyzyl-Kia, Osh, Nooken, Sokuluk, Kara-Balta, Issyk-Ata
