USAID provides $110,000 to support the National Scholarship Testing 2011

USAID The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), has provided $110,000 to support the National Scholarship Testing program in 2011. A press conference on this occasion will be held on December, 23, 13:00 at AKIpress Agency with participation of the representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, USAID Kyrgyzstan Country Director Carey Gordon, and Center for Educational Assessment and Teaching Methods (CEATM) Director Inna Valkova.

The National Scholarship Testing (NST) Project has been implemented in Kyrgyzstan since 2002, with USAID financial and technical assistance, in close cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, and administered by an independent testing organization, CEATM. It is one of the largest anti-corruption educational projects in the country. Its goal is to provide equal and fair access to higher education through transparent and independent testing of students in Kyrgyzstan.
Thanks to USAID assistance, the registration fee for testing has been maintained at the same level for the last 10 years. The testing process helps provide equal access to higher education for all students from all over Kyrgyzstan regardless of their financial or social status. With this grant assistance, CEATM will work on development of test terms and questions; review, edit and re-publish study guides for students on preparation for the NST; conduct a wide information campaign on preparing for NST for students, parents, educational institutions; and conduct informational seminars during January and February 2011 in each region of the country. High NST results are required to receive government scholarships at Kyrgyzstan’s state universities. High school students are given an equal chance to pursue higher education based on merit.
Unified NST rules and procedures provide equal opportunities to all test participants. During the past 10 years, over 217,061 students participated in NST and over 40,000 students won scholarships through the National Scholarship Exams from all over the country.
The NST helps provide improved access to scholarships and fair admission of winners to universities as well as provides the most talented young people with transparent and fair access to higher education in the country. This program is one of many assistance projects supported by the American people through USAID.
