The results of SCO culture ministers meeting in Tashkent

 Bishkek, June 23 / Kabar /. The meeting of Ministers of Culture of the member-states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is held in Tashkent on Wednesday, the press service of the Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism of the Kyrgyz Republic reports.

The meeting was chaired by Minister of Culture and Sports of Uzbekistan B. Ahmedov with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan G. Ahmedyarov, Minister of Culture of China Luo Shugang, Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism of Kyrgyzstan Altynbek Maksutov, First Deputy Minister of Culture of Russia V. Aristarhov, Minister of Culture of Tajikistan Sh. Orumbekzoda and SCO Secretary-General R. Alimov.

The SCO Culture Ministers discussed the development of cooperation in the field of culture and art for the last year and exchanged views on the implementation of the Agreement between the Governments of the SCO member states on cooperation in the field of culture, signed in Bishkek on August 16, 2007, and the agreements reached within the framework of the last meeting of Ministers of Culture of the Organization’s member states.

The sides expressed their mutual desire to further develop cultural ties within the SCO framework, strengthening of mutual understanding and respect, harmonious coexistence of different nationalities and religions, active dissemination of knowledge about the centuries-old traditions and customs of the peoples of the SCO member states.

The sides called for further improvement of cooperation with the observer states and dialogue partners of the SCO in the field of culture and art on a bilateral and multilateral basis.

The sides will pay special attention to the development of bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the study and preservation of the cultural heritage of the SCO region, including along the Silk Road.

The sides confirmed their readiness to enhance cooperation in such areas as research and preservation of the cultural heritage of the region, to prevent theft and illegal import and export of cultural property, the creation of databases and registers of monuments of architecture, training of specialists in the field of civilization and cultural heritage and restoration of works of art and other areas of mutual interest.

The sides agreed to hold the next meeting of SCO Culture Ministers in 2017.
