Kyrgyz Ambassador to Iran signed a multi-national nomination for inclusion Nooruz holiday the UNESCO list


Bishkek, March 18 / Kabar /. Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Islamic Republic of Iran Asanbek Osmonoliev in the office of the Organization for cultural heritage, folklore and tourism of Iran signed on behalf of Kyrgyzstan multinational nomination to include Nooruz holiday the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the signing ceremony was attended by the deputy head of the Organization for the Cultural Heritage of Iran Mohammad Hassan Talibian and other officials. 

During the signing ceremony Osmonaliev noted that the introduction of such a multinational nomination promotes friendship and cultural ties between the peoples and shows the historical community of nations.

Twelve countries are seeking UNESCO’s approval to register a new file on Nooruz, the ancient celebration of the Iranian New Year that begins on the first day of spring, on its List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The countries are Iran, Turkey, Azerbaijan, India, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Iraq.

Noruz was once registered on the UNESCO list as a common element from Iran, Azerbaijan, India, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan in 2009.

In a meeting held in Tehran in January 2014, the countries agreed to add more countries to the file.

Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Iraq were added to the new file as a result.
