Speaker of Jogorku Kenesh met with UNESCO Director General

Bishkek, August 26 / Kabar /. Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Asylbek Jeenbekov today, August 26, met with Irina Bokova, Director General of UNESCO. The meeting was also attended by MP, Deputy Chairman of the National Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic for UNESCO Karganbek Samakov. 

During the meeting Jeenbekov congratulated Bokova on her awarding the Dank medal of Kyrgyzstan and stressed that careful preservation, and promotion of a comprehensive study of the rich cultural heritage of the Kyrgyz people has been and remains one of the priorities of the state policy, as the conservation of cultural heritage contributes to the strengthening of the statehood. The Speaker expressed confidence in successful continuation of steady cooperation in education and science, noting that Parliament has always supported legislative initiatives of the National Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic for UNESCO.

In turn, Irina Bokova expressed happiness that the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan is actively involved in the development of cooperation with UNESCO, the preservation of cultural and historical heritage. She also noted that Kyrgyzstan is the only country in Central Asia, where in 2012 the Law "On protection of intangible cultural heritage" was adopted.

The sides also exchanged views on the prospects of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and UNESCO in the field of preservation of cultural and historical heritage, education and science, the press service of the Parliament of the KR reports.
