Youth center and kindergarten to be open in Batken with the help of DFID and UNICEF

Bishkek, September 27 / Kabar /. British Ambassador Judith Farnworth will visit Batken from 29 September to 2 October. This is the Ambassador’s fourth visit to the southern Kyrgyzstan, but the first to Batken.

During her visit the Ambassador will meet with the Mayor of Batken Janybek Jalalov, representatives of government, local and international civil society organisations and young people to familiarise herself with the situation in the region. One of the Ambassador’s objectives is to raise awareness in the region about the recently established British Embassy, its priorities and activities. The Ambassador will visit a number of projects funded by the UK government to promote stability through research in action and community engagement in conflict resolution. The projects are implemented by INTRAC and International Alert with cooperation from local NGOs.

She will open a youth centre in Andarak village of Batken region, funded by the UK’s Department for Internaitonal Development (DFID) jointly with UNICEF, as well as a community-based kindergarten in Yulbana village of Kadamjai district. Both the youth centre and the kindergarten are examples of successful community interventions aimed at increasing community coherence and peace building in a multi-ethnic setting.
