Anti-drug services of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to conduct preventive action in border areas

Bishkek, June 20 / Kabar /. The UNODC World Drug Report 2012 says that "drug trafficking undermines social and economic development and contributes to the growth of crime, insecurity and the spread of HIV." This problem has become a serious destabilizing factor for many countries.

The list of these countries includes also Kyrgyzstan, through the territory of which criminal networks deliver drugs to Kazakhstan, Russia and other countries from neighboring countries such as Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

A portion of these drugs stays in Kyrgyzstan. According to the Osh drug treatment center, increase of drug users in the south of the republic in 2012 made 1.34%. The largest increase occurred in Batken oblast by 14.5%.

Given these alarming facts and on the basis of the existing agreements, the State Drugs Control Service of Kyrgyzstan and the Drugs Control Agency of Tajikistan plans to hold joint anti-drug prevention campaign in the border regions dedicated to the World Day against drug abuse.

Such joint action of anti-drug services of the two countries will be held for the first time.
