Nariman Passport Office restored with U.S. Government assistance

Bishkek, June 14 / Kabar /. On June 15, 2012, local government and the State Directorate for Reconstruction and Development (SDRD) of Osh and Jalalabad will open a renovated passport office in the Kara-Suu rayon of Osh oblast. The U.S. Government supported this rehabilitation project through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in an effort to help restore crucial government services for the residents of southern Kyrgyzstan. The US Embassy in Bishkek reports.

SDRD recently completed the construction of a new building to reestablish the Nariman Passport Office after it was destroyed in June 2010. USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI) supported this government initiative by supplying office equipment and furniture and installing service counter partitions and information boards in the public waiting areas. The new equipment and furniture will improve the provision of document services to citizens in the Nariman, Kyzyl-Kyshtak, Kashgar-Kyshtak, Toloiken, and Shark townships. Passport services are essential since passports are citizens’ primary form of identification.

This project complements a previous initiative to improve crucial government functions through the rehabilitation of the Mady Passport Office in Mady township of Osh oblast. It is one of many assistance projects supported by the American people through USAID.
