United States supports Naryn oblast in promoting local economic development

Bishkek, June 8 / Kabar /. The United States Government through the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Local Development Program is supporting Naryn Oblast in improving municipal services and implementing sound agricultural practices that promote healthy and productive livestock. The press service of the US embassy in Bishkek reports.

To improve municipal services, the USAID Local Development Program supported the establishment of a One Stop-Shop (OSS) for administrative and other mandatory payments in Naryn by financing the renovation of the premises and purchasing equipment and furniture required for operations. All important service entities, such as “RSK – Bank” office, the State Tax Office, the Naryn Rayon Social Fund, and the Naryn Oblast Department of Statistics were re-located to one room to simplify tax collection from businesses and individual entrepreneurs. This is expected to boost tax payments and increase the local budget by up to 10%. It will also contribute to more favorable conditions for business investment in Naryn.

The opening ceremony for the One-Stop Shop will be held in the Naryn tax service building on June 11, 2012, at 10:00am. Governor of Naryn Oblast; representatives of Naryn city administration, the National Tax Services, the Statistics Committee and Social Fund; RSK Bank officials; USAID Kyrgyz Republic Acting Country Representative Larry Held; and Robert Bodo of USAID’s Local Development Program will attend.

Recognizing Naryn’s established best practice of promoting artificial insemination to improve its livestock, the USAID Local Development Program will award the Min-Bulak Municipality as a winner of the “Best Municipal Practices” competition with a seed drilling machine, a set of artificial insemination instruments, and equipment to maintain a database to evaluate the effectiveness of artificial insemination. The USAID Local Development Program conducted a competition among all municipalities in the Kyrgyz Republic in late 2011. The municipality of Min-Bulak was selected due to their work in agricultural development by starting a seed fund and improving cattle-breeding techniques through artificial insemination. Min-Bulak is one of nine municipalities selected from 107 contestants, and was the only one recognized for two different best practices.

The award ceremony for “The Best Municipal Practices” contest will be held in the Min-Bulak municipal administration building on June 11, 2012, at 1:30pm. The award ceremony will be attended by the head of Min-Bulak Municipality, USAID Local Development Program Specialist of Expansion Almaz Toktomametov

The USAID Local Development Program is a three-year program designed to stimulate rapid, diversified, and sustainable economic growth by supporting local development in municipalities across the Kyrgyz Republic.
