The members of the Executive Boards began visiting regions of the Kyrgyz Republic

 The visit to Kyrgyzstan is the first visit of such kind after the Kyrgyz Republic became the member of the United Nations Organization.

A group of members of the Executive Boards of UNDP, UNICEF, the UN World Food Programme and UN Women arrived in Osh and Batken oblasts to get acquainted with the implementation of projects.

During the visit, the delegation met with representatives of local self-governments, local communities, and aksakals, in particular with the First Deputy Government Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic in Batken oblasts Bakir Zholchiev, Akim of Batken rayon of Batken oblast Keneshbek Salikhov.

"Now, the Kyrgyz Republic is working on a new strategy for sustainable development. The concept of sustainable development crosscuts all levels of administration, and it would be grateful to hear your opinion about the work of the UN on the ground,” noted in his welcoming speech Dmitry Maksimychev, head of the delegation (Deputy Director, Department of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation).

Representatives of the delegation introduced with the projects of UN agencies in Kadamjai rayon, Samarkandek and Pascy-Aryk villages in Batken oblast.

Members of the delegation were able to see firsthand the results of the interaction with the local community, in particular the production of Batken entrepreneurs, united under the trademark of “Presents of Batken”, work on the reconstruction and concreting of cross-border channel Aktatyr, bank protection works of irrigation canal in the village of Pascy Aryk and improved 110 trading places and the meat pavilion at the local market in the village Samarkandek, which is the area of ​​cross-border trade.
"Together with UNDP and UNICEF there has been done a huge work with local self-governments, local communities, aiming at strengthening the capacity of people living in border areas. Local communities have better access to water and irrigation and cross-border trade, which helps to reduce tensions over water resources and to improve the cross-border exchange. The group of professional women carpet makers received equipment for wool processing. In turn, they have trained 5 vulnerable young women in the production of carpets. It was established 1 sustainable business enterprise for the processing of wool. Jobs for mothers of children with disabilities have been established. More than 150 children have access to quality services for pre-school education. Children with disabilities receive rehabilitation and educational services," Akim of Batken rayon Keneshbek Salikhov said during the meeting with the delegation.

Representatives of the UN Executive Board also visited the community kindergarten and centers for children with disabilities, supported by UNICEF, the secondary school in Kadamjai rayon where the UN World Food Organization project on school feeding was launched, as well as the Center for Family Medicine, where the family planning trainings are supported by UNFPA.
