Opening of the Day Care Centre for older people and persons with disabilities in Uchar village

Bishkek, 2 October / Kabar /. On September 30, Kudaibergen Bazarbaev, the Minister of Social Development of the Kyrgyz Republic and Ambassador Cesare De Montis, the Head of the EU Delegation to the Kyrgyz Republic, opened the “Day Care” in Uchar village of Kara-Suu district in Osh oblast.

This Centre was opened in the framework of implementation of the State Order for providing alternative services to socially vulnerable groups of the population.

In his opening speech, Mr. Kudaibergen Bazarbaev said: "We have opened seven pilot centres for people with disabilities and children in difficult life situation, older people and homeless. Today, our Ministry is the only one agency providing funds for non-governmental organizations in the framework of the Law "On state social order". In the last 5 years the funds allocated under this Law “On state social order” increased to KGS 22 million”.

The Head of the EU Delegation, Ambassador Cesare De Montis said in his speech that since 2008 strengthening of social protection has been one of the priorities of the EU and that it in this period a total of Euro 40 million of budget support has been granted to the country. This is reflective of positive cooperation between the EU and the Government as well as the ongoing commitment of the Government for implementation of reforms in social protection. Thanks to this commitment some important steps have been undertaken and the support available for vulnerable people has significantly improved.

This Centre is opened in the framework of the project "Care about everyone" of the Public Association "Nursaman", which won the tender of social projects of the Ministry of Social Development. The project for operating this Centre will be implemented operate within the framework of the State Social Order during one year. The amount allocated from the state budget exceeded KGS 1.3 million.

The opening ceremony was also attended by representatives from local authorities, civil society and the media.
