Osh city will celebrate Mountain Sulayman as a symbol of peace and harmony

Bishkek, September 30 / Kabar /. From 2 to 6 October 2014 the city of Osh will host a festival titled "Sulayman Too – a symbol of peace and harmony", which includes a number of cultural and academic events dedicated to the unique unifying role of the sacred mountain of Sulayman-Too.

The festival is aimed at promoting the symbolic meaning of Osh city and Sulayman-Too for such universal values as tolerance, civic identity and respect for inter-ethnic and religious diversity.

World Heritage Sulaiman-Too is located in the center of the historic part of Osh. The unique historical and spiritual significance of Sulayman is recognized internationally: UNESCO added the Mountain Sulayman into the World Heritage List in the "Holy Mountain" category on 26 June 2009 at its 33rd meeting in Spain.

However, from ancient times Sulayman-Too has also been known as a symbol of historical, spiritual and cultural unity of people living in Ferghana Valley and Central Asia. The role of the sacred mountain in unifying various ethnic groups in the region will be discussed separately during the public presentation of the monograph "Sulayman-Too. Myths, legends, research" written by historian Antonina Zaharova.

In the period from 2 to 6 October, residents and visitors of Osh can attend in theatrical performances, photo and art exhibitions, classical music concerts, a scientific conference, exhibitions of folk art, sports, etc.

The festival is organized by the Osh Mayor's office and supported by UNDP, OSCE, GIZ, UN Peacebuilding Fund, UNHCR, Government of Finland, Eurasia Foundation, Osh State University, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Youth of Osh and others.
