Officers of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic learn basics of the gender policy

Bishkek, August 14 / Kabar /. The five-day "Gender Policy in the Internal Affairs Bodies’ Activity" training course for law enforcement officers started today in the Issyk-Kul province, Kyrgyz Republic, within the framework of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime Project "Peace and Trust: Equal Access to Law Enforcement and Justice", supported by the UN Peacebuilding Fund. The aim of the project is to increase public confidence and trust in the police and reduce tensions among the population of the Kyrgyz Republic by increasing gender and minorities participation and representation in the police.

The training course, specially developed by the faculty team of the Police Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, is designed for police managers of the Internal Affairs Department of the Kyrgyz Republic (IAD KR) and representatives of the Association of Female Police Officers (KAFPO) for the purpose of teaching them in gender policy basics for future application in their daily work. 

Totally, 28 staff members of the fourteen pilot units of the IAD KR and KAFPO reperesentatives are participating in the event. The overall program of the course is based on combination of interactive forms of learning and performing practical tasks to enhance the learning process efficiency. Women's rights and gender equality issues in international conventions; legislation and public policy to achieve gender equality; objectives and priorities of law enforcement agencies of Kyrgyzstan to implement the state policy in the field of gender equality, efforts aimed at reforming the police and other issues will be the focus of the training. In future, it is expected to conduct a series of similar training courses for middle-level police staff with the assistance of trainers from the selected trained staff, as well as national and international experts. 

Training program for officers of the Internal Affairs’ agencies of the Kyrgyz Republic is implemented by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) with the financial support of the UN Peacebuilding Fund within the framework of cooperation between the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic on implementation of the National Sustainable Development Strategy of the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as the Resolution of the Kyrgyz Republic Government "On Measures aimed at reforming law-enforcement agencies of the Kyrgyz Republic", adopted in April 2013.
