United Kingdom appreciates the democratic transformations in Kyrgyzstan - Ambassador

 Bishkek, December 2 / Kabar /. Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Chynybay Tursunbekov met today with British Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic Robin Ord-Smith and deputy head of the DFID office in Central Asia Nick Bowler. The meeting was also attended by head of DFID «Promotion of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic" program Jeffrey Lilly, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament reports.

During the meeting Speaker Tursunbekov said that Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to the development of cooperation with the United Kingdom and is always ready and open for dialogue.

He thanked the British side for the rendering grant and technical assistance to Kyrgyzstan, as well as programs for 2016 and subsequent years, including the project on "Promoting the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic", with a budget of 8 million pounds. "We are interested in improving the efficiency of DFID projects and programs to reform economic and social spheres, as well as, which has direct impact on the democratic development of Kyrgyzstan," Tursunbekov said.

The Speaker also briefed on the progress of implementation of the Strategy of development of the Parliament until 2021.

The Ambassador said that the United Kingdom appreciates the democratic transformations taking place in the country. "We also, like you, are interested in strengthening our relations," said Robin Ord-Smith.

Deputy head DFID office in Central Asia Nick Bowler informed in detail about the future plans and activities of the DFID for cooperation with Kyrgyzstan.
