 Kyrgyz Speaker and Executive Director of Open World Leadership Center discuss strengthening of cooperation between Jogorku Kenesh and the US Congress

Bishkek, December 1 / Kabar /. Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Chynybay Tursunbekov received U.S. Ambassador United to Kyrgyzstan Sheila Gwaltney and Executive Director of Open World Leadership Center John O'Keefe, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament reports.

The sides discussed issues of strengthening cooperation between the Jogorku Kenesh and the US Congress, the implementation of new projects in Open World Leadership Center. They exchanged views on the prospects for the development of parliamentary democracy, the economic potential of Kyrgyzstan.

During the meeting Tursunbekov congratulated the interlocutors on the recent presidential election in the United States.

The Kyrgyz Speaker stressed that this year is an anniversary of bilateral relations. He said that for 25 years the United States rendered a lot of support to Kyrgyzstan in many spheres of life. "And we are certainly thankful for the leadership and people of the United States," the Speaker said.

He also emphasized the great contribution of the Open World Leadership Center in strengthening the interparliamentary ties. "This year, some of our young parliamentarians visited the United States through the program of your center at. I am convinced that you will continue to pursue close cooperation for the benefit of our countries," Tursunbekov said.

In turn, John O'Keefe informed that his job is to work with more than 400 congressmen and 100 senators on the development of relations with the US Congress, the parliaments of other countries. "Particular attention is paid to Kyrgyzstan, as the US see all the positive democratic changes taking place in the country," he said and expressed confidence in further fruitful cooperation.

Sheila Gwaltney also added that the US will continue to support democratic processes in Kyrgyzstan. Speaking about bilateral relations, she noted that they are based on trust, equality and mutual respect.
