Kyrgyz-Afghan intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation to be created

Bishkek, November 4 / Kabar /. Acting Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Zheenbekov met on November 3 with visiting Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah in the framework of the SCO summit in Bishkek.

During the meeting the sides discussed the state and prospects of Kyrgyz-Afghan cooperation.

Sooronbay Zheenbekov stressed that Kyrgyzstan supports the Afghan Government aimed at strengthening peace, stability and security in Afghanistan and the Central Asian region as a whole.

"I am very pleased that today the delegation of Afghanistan took part in the 15th meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the SCO Member States. The two countries established a constructive cooperation within international and regional organizations have similar positions, mutual support on major international issues," Zheenbekov said.

The Acting Prime Minister said that the Afghan Government, with the assistance of the international community showed great courage and firmness in the fight against international terrorism, religious extremism and drug production. He added that Kyrgyzstan is willing to strengthen cooperation with Afghanistan in ensuring security in the region, combating illicit trafficking of weapons and drugs, terrorism and extremism.

The chief executive of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah stressed that such threats require joint comprehensive measures to address them.

He congratulated Sooronbay Zheenbekov on the successful conducting of the jubilee 15th session of the SCO Council of Heads of Governments and noted that Afghanistan is interested to be a full member of the SCO. "These summits are a good platform to discuss topical issues between the countries of the region," said Abdullah Abdullah.

The chief executive of Afghanistan suggested to form a Kyrgyz-Afghan intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation to deepen bilateral relations.

Sooronbay Zheenbekov agreed with Afghan counterpart and stressed that the country has the opportunity to realize multidisciplinary projects in agriculture, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
