Kyrgyzstan’s achievements in peace-building discussed in UN

Bishkek, October 11 / Kabar /. The delegation of Kyrgyzstan led by Deputy Chief of the President’s Office of the Kyrgyz Republic Mira Karybaeva took part in the meeting of the UN Peacebuilding Commission in New York.

Kyrgyzstan's cooperation with the UN Peacebuilding Fund has begun in 2010.

The peace-building activities have been aimed at supporting the implementation of the National Strategy for Sustainable Development, the efforts of the Kyrgyz government bodies to strengthen inter-ethnic harmony and is implemented by UN agencies. The work was conducted under the supervision of a Joint Steering Committee. The monitoring teams of Joint Steering Committee monitored the progress of development of resources in the field, covering the territory of more than 100 local communities.

Experience of Kyrgyzstan on the organization of post-conflict recovery process is recognized as one of the most successful in the history of the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund. The delegations of Korea, European Union, Japan, Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, Bangladesh, Brazil, Sweden and other countries noted the successful experience of Kyrgyzstan and expressed support for democratic reforms and efforts to consolidate peace in the country.

During the visit, Deputy Head of the President’s Office Mira Karybaeva unit met with the Assistant Secretary-General for Peacebuilding Oscar Fernandez-Taranxo, UNDP Administrator Helen Clark, the heads of several UN agencies.
