Sapar Isakov: "The US Embassy’s security message about possible terrorist attacks surprised me very much"

Bishkek, October 10 / Kabar /. "The US Embassy’s security message about possible terrorist attacks in Kyrgyzstan surprised me very much," head of the foreign policy department of the Kyrgyz President’s Office Sapar Isakov told journalists during a press conference at Kabar Agency.

"I know for sure that the US Embassy did not conduct consultations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan before publishing this message. In this connection, we are also in perplexity, how they can immediately post such information without conducting appropriate consultations with the host country authorities. That’s really surprised me very much. Today our Foreign Ministry should look into and should receive comments from the US Embassy and then after that the Ministry will publish an informational message," Isakov said.

On October 8 the US Embassy in Bishkek published on its website the security message about possible terrorist attacks, which may potentially involve kidnapping and hostage taking, targeted against local authorities and foreign diplomats during the month of October in the Kyrgyz Republic.

"Although there is no specific threat against US citizens, the embassy would like to take this opportunity to remind US citizens who live or travel in Kyrgyzstan, to take personal security measures, including while in public places and in public transport.

“While there are no specific threats against U.S. citizens or interests, the Embassy would like to take this opportunity to remind U.S. citizens living and traveling in the Kyrgyz Republic to practice good personal security habits including exercising vigilance when in public places or using mass transportation, said in a statement.
