Kyrgyz Parliament adopts a draft law on referendum

Bishkek, September 22 / Kabar /. Kyrgyz Parliament members adopted today in the second reading a draft law to conduct a referendum to introduce amendments to the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic.

98 MPs voted to adopt the draft law and 6 were against.

A referendum on introducing amendments to the Constitution is scheduled for this fall. The changes include the expansion of powers of a prime minister.

The draft law proposes to define activities of groups of participants in the referendum. It is also proposed to define the list of entities that initiate holding of a referendum; the procedure of collecting signatures and verification of signature sheets; vote counting procedure.
