Maksim Bakiev released on bail

Bishkek, October 16 / Kabar /. Further to its statement of 13 October, the British Embassy confirms that, following his arrest and court hearing in London on 12 October, Maksim Bakiev was released on bail until 7 December 2012. The decision whether or not to grant bail is entirely a matter for the UK courts. Mr Bakiev’s bail conditions require him: not to seek the return of his diplomatic and national passport held by the Home Office; not to apply for international travel documents; to live and sleep each night at a specific address; and to report to his local police station every week at a set time.

The independence of the UK judiciary is enshrined in law. The request from the US Government for Mr Bakiev’s extradition will be handled in strict accordance with established UK judicial processes.
