Over 20 convicts in Kyrgyzstan declare hunger strike

Bishkek, Jan 13. / Kabar /. More than 20 inmates in penal colony №27 declared hunger strike, the press service of the State Service for Punishment Execution of Kyrgyzstan reports.

The inmiates, who decalred a hunger strike are convicted of extremism and terrorism. Since summer of 2016, under the new law, convicted of extremist and terrorist offenses are kept separately from other prisoners, in addition conditional early discharge does not apply to them.

"The prisoners on hunger strike were convicted before the adoption of this law and require conditional early discharge and change conditions in the colony," the report says.

The press service added that at present negotiations are underway to stop the hunger strike.
