CSTO decision not to send troops to Kyrgyzstan - ‘collective’

A decision not to send troops to Kyrgyzstan was made together by all countries comprising the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the organization’s Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha said in Yerevan Tuesday. He added that ‘sending troops there from Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan or any other country comprising the CSTO could have stirred up tensions again’. Mr. Bordyuzha said that the CSTO had been focusing on humanitarian assistance to Kyrgyzstan and was aware that the country had enough armed forces. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands fled their homes when ethnic clashes broke out in southern Kyrgyzstan on June 10. Currently the situation is improving.
