Largest Iranian companies are ready to invest in construction of small hydropower stations in Kyrgyzstan - Ambassador

Bishkek, December 6 / Kabar /. Chairman of the State Committee for Industry, Energy and Mining Duyshenbek Zilaliev met yesterday with Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Kyrgyzstan Ali Mojtaba Ruzbehani, the press service of the State Committee reports.

The Iranian ambassador said that the trade and economic relations between Kyrgyzstan and Iran does not correspond to the level that formed in the political sphere. "At the political level, we have a very warm relationship. This is confirmed by the last year's visit of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic to Iran. Also till the end of this year, the Iranian president is expecting to visit Kyrgyzstan," Ali Mojtaba Ruzbehani said.

He said that the trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Iran is less than $ 30 million a year, while the official trade turnover between Iran and Afghanistan reached $ 2.7 billion.

The Ambassador said that the largest Iranian companies, such as "Farad" willing to invest in the construction of small hydropower plants and small reservoirs in Kyrgyzstan. However, he said, there are a number of fundamental issues that hinder the development of bilateral relations such as not organized inter-bank communications, delaying the issuance of visas and the lack of a direct flight Bishkek-Tehran.

In turn, Zilaliev also stressed the low level of economic relations between the two countries. "I am ready to make every effort to give impetus to our relations," he said, promising to inform the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the problems that hinder doing business.

Zilaliev expressed willingness to meet representatives of "Farad" and other companies for the presentation of large investment projects: Upper-Naryn cascade HPP, Kambarata HPP-1 and 2, Uch-Kurgan HPP and a number of small hydropower plants.

Zilaliev also said that in the sphere of subsoil management there is no any Iranian company. "If Iran wants to enter this market, we are ready to offer attractive projects. As you know, Kyrgyzstan has one of the most liberal tax regimes in the region," he said.

In addition, Kyrgyzstan is interested in development of relations in the spheres of oil and gas processing, textile and food, etc.

The parties agreed to build relationships that will contribute to development of rapid and effective solutions.
